Tech focus: making the most of the cloud

With the impact of the pandemic on the gaming industry and the wider world, the scalable tech and infrastructure costs that come with using the public cloud has become more than just a desirable long-term goal to many gaming operators, but a matter of increasing urgency.

The ability to scale and flex instantaneously based on customer demand, be versatile in an uncertain environment, and ensure you have full and total control over your tech and infrastructure costs are all becoming common goals for forward-thinking companies in the space.

The increasing use of cloud technologies has changed the internal management of tech resources. Operators that have taken the plunge on this have seen the ability to move away from a single IT function that serves the business, into a world where the business can serve itself.

In order to allow industry professionals to navigate the space, SBC has teamed up with experienced gaming-industry cloud providers Computacenter and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to present the groundbreaking ‘Cloud Acceleration Series’, a 3-part webinar series designed to showcase the power and versatility of cloud computing to operators, and the industry at large.

The first episode takes place tomorrow, Thursday 16 September at 16:00 BST, and is entitled ‘Gaining Cloud Insights and Control’. This session will focus on how businesses can understand and control the costs of their infrastructure using public cloud.  It will ask the questions: How do you make sure the costs are shared out correctly across your business? How do you optimise? And what happens when you include the complication of 3rd party ISV solutions into the mix?

The expert panel of Pete Groushko (Director of Technology Sourcing Sales), Dan Wright-Green (AWS Alliance Director UK/I) and Nick Jones (Client Director) all of co-hosts Computacenter, as well as guests from Computacenter customer William Hill in Sarah Lucas (Head of Platform and Infrastructure), and Abi Bradley (Senior Finance Business Partner), together with moderator and SBC Head of Media, Luke Massey, will attempt to answer these questions and introduce the power and ability of cloud computing to the gaming industry audience. 

Episode 2 follows in October and will focus on how innovative technology can make new market expansion simple, with November’s Episode 3 showing how extracting value from your data is key to personalising and safeguarding the player experience.
