The Game Developers Conference fourth annual State of the Industry Survey, has shown that 88% of developers believe esports to be a long-term sustainable business. It also showed that 75% believe the same for Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR).
The results of the survey are formulated by generated by feedback of over 2,000 game developers. It showed that 16% of developers are currently working on projects in relation to VR, which is over twice the percentage from last year’s survey.
The GDC survey also looked into which platforms developers are most likely to target. PC was the leader at 52%, down from last year’s 56% while 44% of developers are working on mobile and tablet games which itself is down from 50%.
Sony will be pleased to see support for the Xbox One increase from 26 to 27%, whilst Nintendo will be dismayed to see 5% of respondents say that they’re working on Wii U projects, and worse still just 2% of developers are working on titles for the 3DS.
