Betting exchange Smarkets has confirmed that it will fully integrate its ‘instant match’ feature having tested the function in beta

Instant Match is Smarkets answer to in-play betting. The feature works by matching bets instantly so that traders never miss a price due to a delay. Competitors, institute a mandatory eight-second delay before matching the bet when in play.Instant Match overcomes that by deciphering real-time data to distinguish moments of safe play versus vulnerable in-play moments when customers can miss a pricing opportunity. The company implemented the feature in 2014 and it proved to be incredibly popular with Smarkets clients.

Smarkets CEO & Founder, Jason Trost, commented on the features

“We knew we needed to provide something better than the existing solutions for in-play bets. The eight-second delay prevalent within in-play betting today needed to change. It’s cumbersome from a customer experience perspective and we believed we could do better. Instant Match is Smarkets answer to this.”

The feature has proved itself to be popular during its trial in the football markets. One of the key measures the service provides is not just the instant matching of bets, but also safety from ‘danger periods’. If a bet is matched during danger periods, the trade is pended for 8 seconds and will be voided should a material event (i.e. goal or red card) occur during this time. With Instant Match, in-play traders get their prices instantly, but are also protected at the same time.

Following key stage growth for the Smarkets betting exchange, senior management has noted product innovations and expansion as a key strategy for the company’s growth
