SBC Interviews BETEGY CEO Alex Kornilov

alexkSBC caught up with Alex Kornilov CEO and Founder of BETEGY a young company with an online service that provides football predictions based in Poland and the Ukraine. Betegy is a statistical football predictions and betting tips with over 75% accuracy in Premier League, Bundesliga, Primera Division, Major League Soccer .

SBC’s Mark McGuinness caught up Alex Kornilov to discuss Betegy services and future plans for igaming.

SBC: Alex tell us a bit about yourself and how you decided to start BETEGY?

Alex: I stared my first business when I was 18. Then after that, I took part in variety of ventures from food kiosks to telecommunication company. During this time I met my partner – Vitaliy Yatsunyk. Together we’ve been working on digital publishing solutions for iOS.

Two years ago, one of our colleagues showed us the project he was working during his free time. It was the prototype of the system which predicts football results for German Bundesliga. We tested it for some time. Accuracy was good. Very quickly we released the opportunity and it became the main project of the company. The name was changed 3 times until we came up with current one: Bet Assist –> Betviser –> BETEGY

SBC: Football betting and prediction services are growing ever more popular. Why do you think that is the case?

Alex: Betting is one of the oldest forms of entertainment we know. It was always a big part of sport. 38% of all bets in sports are placed on football. The growing interest towards football, which is driven by various marketing campaigns and sponsorships, results the increase of interest in game analysis.

Today, football itself is very much dependent on data analysis. Coaches, scouts and players spend a lot of time analysing various data to outperform opponents. Now, football depends on numbers and statistical analysis like never before.

Therefore, everyone understands how past results and strategy of the team can influence the outcome of the game. So, more and more people start to play with numbers in order to predict who will win this time. It is pretty hard and time consuming job to do all calculations by yourself even for 1 match. That is why prediction services based on statistical data become more and more popular.

SBC: As the sector hot’s up for data driven prediction services, how shall BETEGY differentiate itself from the competition?

Alex: The key here is innovation. Being a technological company we put great attention to R&D. We can not afford  to stop researching, testing and trying new things.

Currently, no other service can consider as much statistics and factors as BETEGY. Weather, pitch conditions, motivation – all is taking into consideration by the system.

We created the algorithm, which learns by itself as it gets more and more data to analyse. It automatically adjusts for different leagues based on previous performance.

It is also important to present the data in a way that users can make the best value out of it. The majority of services do not care much about UX. That is why the industry is stuck back in time. BETEGY tries to change this and bring the whole new experience for fans and bettors.

SBC: You’ve recently signed a partnership deal with ESPN, how is that going and any more distribution deals in the pipeline?

Alex: The team  at ESPN have done a wonderful job in visualising the data on their side and obviously the result looks great. Currently, there are only two providers of soccer predictions to ESPN. Alongside BETEGY, are predictions from Bloomberg. So, users can follow the progress of their personal choice.

This fall (autumn) we have a bunch of other exciting news lined up to be announced. So far I cannot disclose the details, but I can assure you that more and more people will get access to quality data analysis soon. With our API, media companies can create stunning products for their users for desktop and mobile. In winter we plan to do our first BETEGY hackathon. Developers will have a chance to design their own products using our data.

SBC:  Mobile betting, in-play continue to be huge drivers of growth in the sector. How will BETEGY’s service differ from the desktop to the mobile channel given gamblers on smartphones demand instant gratification?

Creating BETEGY mobile app is not simply to copy the web app and change the screen resolution. Every single component of the service should be reconsidered and measured that it is truly useful. That is why the app will have only 3 most essential types of data: statistics, predictions and live odds.

Our app will allow our users to extend the way they interact with sports data. You will be able to place bets in few moments and all relevant information will be just few touches away.

Beta version of BETEGY mobile app will be available this winter.

SBC: And finally World Cup 2014 isn’t far away, what’s BETEGY’s predictions for company growth around this betting extravagance?

Alex: We will team up with few big media companies to prepare special product for Brazil 2014 together. These partnerships will allow more people to enjoy statistical predictions and data analysis for all games in the competition. Social media will be a significant part of the product for desktop and mobile platforms. We will unveil more details this spring
