Swedish gambling regulator updates self-exclusion site

Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Inspectorate, has detailed plans to update its Spelapus.se self-exclusion website, with the aim of making it more ‘user-friendly’.

The authority has assured licensed betting firms that the new site, expected to launch in May of this year, will not introduce any ‘major adjustments’ to their operations.

According to the Inspectorate, licensees will continue to check against the website in the ‘same way as before’ and using the same technical solution’, whilst detailing that more information ‘to those concerned’ will be released later in the year.

A notable added function for consumers that is to be introduced as part of the makeover is the option to extend an ongoing self-exclusion, something which Spelinspektionen explained had been requested by bettors.

An additional focus has been placed on ‘clearer information and guidance’ such as how players can find help with gamblng problems, whilst the Inspectorate has detailed a general aim to make the site more user-friendly.

The update has come about due to the expiration of the Inspectorate’s agreement with its supplier, instead securing a deal with a new partner, Precio Fishbone

“During the three years that Spelapus.se has been in operation, the Swedish Gaming Inspectorate has received many good views and seen the need for further functions and improvements,” the Inspectorate detailed.

Since Spelpause.se launched in January 2019 as part of the re-regulation of Sweden’s gambling industry, the number of self-suspensions via the site has amounted to just over 70,000.
