GLMS reappoints Calvi as President in Executive Committee election

The Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS) has appointed Ludovico Calvi as its Chair and President in its most recent Executive Committee election.

Calvi will serve his third mandate as President until the next election in 2023, whilst Gilles Maillet, Sport Integrity Director at La Française des Jeux (FDJ), will replace Rupert Bolingbroke of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) in his first term as GLMS Vice-Chair.

The Executive Committee forms one of the four governing bodies of GLMS, alongside the Lausanne-based General Secretariat, the General Meeting – the wider membership of the organisation – and the Auditors.

Made up of eight members, each one representing a different national lottery, four Executive Committee representatives are elected by the General Meeting, and the remaining four are nominated by the World Lottery Association and European Lotteries, the founding members of GLMS, and then validated by the membership.

“I am delighted and privileged to have been appointed President of GLMS for a third consecutive term,” Calvi remarked. “I would like to thank all members of GLM for the renewed trust.”

Joining Calvi as elected members are Lat Dip of Senegal’s LONASE, Younès El Mechrafi of Morocco’s MDJS and Lori Sulivian of Canada’s OLG.

Meanwhile, nominated member Maillet will be joined by Fabian Garcia of Uruguay’s Saetonne, La Banca de Quinelas; Jens Nielsen of Denmark’s Danske Spil and Michael Fitzsimons of the HKJC.

In his statement, Calvi noted the GLMS’ primary aim and achievements over the past two terms, including a review of the organisation’s efficiency, investment in ‘competent human and technical resources’ and the objective of driving transparent and more effective processes and governance.

Additionally, the group has aimed to implement new and efficient statutes to allow GLMS to expand and diversify its membership base, integrating new strategy Sport Integrity Shareholders, as well as strengthening relations with public and private stakeholders, defining and implementing a new communication strategy and efficiently engaging its members.

The President continued: “We have set very solid foundations to drive the success of our Association in the titanic fight against Match Fixing and to protect Sports Integrity worldwide.

“I am honoured to have been re-elected since this would allow me to carry on the mission of growing GLMS network worldwide and disseminating its core values while guaranteeing continuity and strengthening the association.

“I am fully convinced that GLMS represents a tremendous vehicle not only for our Association and its members but also for all other key interested stakeholders, our communities, and our society as a whole.”

GLMS Q1 report was released in April, detailing that Europe was the continent responsible for the most betting alerts, out of a total of 23 warnings reported to the organisation’s international sporting partners.
