Stars Group prepares for Indian facing Pokerstars launch

Pokerstars is set to enhance its global assault of the online poker world, courtesy of the launch of Indian facing website pokerstars.in.

As reported by glaws.in, its Canadian based parent firm The Stars Group has partnered with lottery and gaming conglomerate, Sugal & Damani, with sources indicating that the offering is believed to be going live in the coming weeks.

The pokerstars.in domain, which currently has a ‘coming soon’ message displayed, is owned by Kolkata-registered Sachiko Gaming Private Limited, an “offshoot” of Mumbai based skill game firm Sachar Gaming Private Limited, with the pair reportedly having the same directors.

Sachar Gaming, who is known to be connected to Sugal & Damani, operates a rummy site and until recently operated a poker portal titled Khelplay, which it recently shut down on March 15, believed to be to facilitate Pokerstars Indian entry.

The Stars Group CEO Rafi Ashkenazi has previously spoken of the gaming and online gambling company entering the Indian market, stating “We want to be there in time and we want to make sure that we are, as usual, the market leader when it comes to poker.”

Pokerstars has increasingly stated a desire to enter the Indian market, previously announcing it would begin operations by the close of 2017, as well as estimating that the nations poker market would be valued at $150 million per year and growing.
