Football League title sponsor Sky Bet covered Carlisle United fans tickets and travel for the 779 mile round trip to Plymouth Argyles Home Park stadium, the gruelling journey dubbed the UK longest away day
The generous bookmaker paid for the 79 fans who made the journey setting off at 10 am on Tuesday and returning to Carlisle at 5 am Wednesday. The dedicated Cumbrians would see their side lose 4-1 away.
Carlisle’s Marketing Director Phil King said: “We took a call from the Football League and Sky Bet this morning and Sky Bet were keen to support our fans who are making the trip down to Plymouth tonight.
“To sell 79 tickets for such a long trip on a Tuesday night is phenomenal from our fans and we’re pleased their loyalty to the club has been rewarded.”
Sky Bet Head of Sponsorship Edwin Martin said: “As Carlisle to Plymouth is the longest trip in The Football League and given it is on a Tuesday night, we thought the loyal Carlisle fans making the trip deserved a bit of help to make their away day trip even better. We were delighted to be able to pay for their match ticket and coach travel and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”.
Sky Bet’s kind gesture was well received on Twitter, with football fans throughout the UK thanking the bookmaker
