UK licensed bookmaker Betway, continues to strengthen its corporate social responsibilities,  by announcing that it has partnered with the UK Professional Players Federation (PPF), the organisational body dedicated to promoting, protecting and developing the collective interests of professional sportspeople in the UK.

The tie-up will see the online bookmaker contribute to sports betting integrity educational initiatives undertaken by the PPF, which over 5,000 professional sportsmen and women benefit from each year.

The support provided by Betway through the long-term agreement will help fund specially trained tutors and customised e-learning programmes to allow delivery of critical training to athletes about the dangers of match fixing.

Betway CEO Richard Akitt said: “Sport in the UK has a phenomenal record of stamping out match fixing, but we are all aware of the dangers and temptations that young professional sportspeople face.

“We are therefore delighted to partner with the Professional Players Federation and look forward to supporting the vital work they carry out for many years to come. British sportsmen and women are some of the best educated in the world about the dangers of match fixing, and Betway are proud to support the PPF in their efforts to improve upon their already sterling record.”

PPF Chairman Brendon Batson OBE said: “We are delighted to welcome Betway to the partnership which does so much to protect British sporting integrity.  Education for athletes is one of the best defences against the threat of match fixing and it’s great to see another leading betting company supporting this important work.

“Betway’s support will enable us to expand the reach of our education work to include more sports and reach more athletes.

“This is a great example of how sport and the betting industry can work productively together to help protect British sport so that we can enhance and protect the UK’s reputation for sporting excellence, integrity and fair play.”
