Entain makes £100,000 commitment to India pandemic relief

Entain has committed £100,000 to assist with relief efforts in India, as COVID-19 cases in the country continue to surge amid a new strain of the virus.

The donation will be primarily utilised to fund purchases of medical supplies – such as the essential drugs Remdesivir, Tocilizumab and Dexamethasone, used for the treatment of the virus – as well as 25 much needed Invacare Platinum Oxygen concentrators.

As India’s medical infrastructure is under increasing pressure due to mounting hospitalisations, the supply of oxygen concentrators and medication will enable the treatment of more coronavirus patients in their own homes.

The firm’s donation includes support for the operations of Crown Agents, a not-for-profit international development organisation playing an active role in assisting India’s medical centres with the fight against the virus, who will arrange and oversee the distribution of funds.

Entain has a workforce of over 2,500 Indian employees via its IvyTech subsidiary in the city of Hyderabad. The donation will be undertaken via its Entain Foundation, the group behind the operator’s sustainability and social responsibility initiatives, led by Lieutenant General Ed Davis CBE.

“We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our colleagues and the Indian people at large in what is a hugely challenging time for all,” commented Jette Nygaard-Andersen, CEO of Entain.

“We hope that the supply of oxygen concentrators and COVID-19 drugs will make a contribution to helping in the fight against this dreadful virus.”

The operator intends to support its Indian colleagues and their families with on-the-ground support, including the procurement of critical medicines, emergency hospitalisation support, assistance with medical insurance and online medical consultations.

Additionally, the Entain Foundation believes that the donation, as well as a general commitment to contribute to the wider COVID-19 relief effort, is in line with its policy of supporting the communities in which the group operates.

“We are deeply concerned about the current situation in India,” said Fergus Drake, CEO of Crown Agents. “Especially in these difficult times, we must stand together to beat the virus globally, once and for all. We very much welcome Entain’s support and are committed to continuing to work with our funders globally to beat this deadly disease.”
