EPIC Risk Management recruits Dan Trolaro to strengthen US focus

Dan Trolaro, a problem gambling prevention specialist, has joined EPIC Risk Management as the harm minimisation consultancy’s Vice President of Prevention, as the company looks to expand its focus in the US.

Effective from 9 August 2021, Trolaro’s new role will see him work to implement EPIC’s ‘blended, four pillar approach’ combining lived experience, prevention, policy, research and evidence, in order to assist with the development of a ‘safe and sustainable industry in the US’.

Commenting on his new appointment, Trolaro remarked: “I’m excited to be joining EPIC as the Vice President of Prevention in the US.  As gambling continues to expand in the US and globally, we are seeing an increased need and desire for prevention, education, and awareness to reduce gambling related harms.

“I’m excited to continue working with various stakeholders around the country who share a similar vision and desire to address this growing public health issue.”

Prior to joining EPIC, Trolaro was Assistant Executive Director at the Council on Compulsive Gamlbing of New Jersey – known as 800-Gambler – in a position which saw him initiate training, strategic advice and state-specific prevention programming to reduce the impact of gambling related harms.

EPIC is hopeful that Trolaro’s experience and expertise will ‘play an important role’ in developing its services to the US gambling sector, as more and more states open their markets to both land-based and online betting and gaming.

“In Dan, we are adding a person who has a real passion, personally, and track record, professionally, in preventing gambling harm,” said Paul Buck, EPIC Risk Management CEO.

“Gambling is a public health issue, and the prevention of harm is critical if the US is to avoid the mistakes of more mature gambling markets. With the hire of our VP of US Policy & Strategic Development, Brianne Doura-Schawohl, late last year we showed a dedication to assisting in the creation of robust gambling policy.

“With the addition of Dan to the team, a man of considerable expertise including his own lived experience, we will be stepping up our efforts in the areas we have led in the UK and Europe with prevention programs, advisory and training to the highest risk sectors. The US is still a nascent gambling market but true prevention is proactive not reactive.”

Trolaro’s appointment follows last month’s addition of Cam Adair to EPIC’s team as an esports consultant, with a specific focus on the company’s education and professional sports operations in the US, Europe and the UK.
