Spanish leaders commit to CAJR advisory promoting ‘health & responsiblity’

Spanish gambling executives have formed a new ‘advisory committee for responsible gambling, with Spain having revamped its online gambling framework this year, and expanding its market to new incumbents in 2019.

The Consejo Asesor del Juego Responsible – CAJR advisory has been approved by Spanish gambling regulatory body DGOJ, and will act as the betting industry’s point of contact with Spain’s Treasury and Health departments.

Presenting the directive, the DGOJ details that it wants participating industry stakeholders to collaborate with the Spanish government and health organisations, maintaining a socially responsible and sustainable gambling sector.

In its initial mandate, the CAJR advisory has placed a strong emphasis on betting leadership being advised by Spain’s national health bodies on treatment, addiction and engagement with high-risk gamblers, thus supporting a comprehensive framework on combatting problem gambling ills.

The foundation of CAJR follows September’s ruling by the Spanish Assembly on the re-classification of gambling-harm as a drug addiction, a decision backed by the Spanish Drugs Council seeking to revamp the nation’s addiction support and treatment structures.

Spanish industry news source Azar Plus has revealed that industry executives Francisco Feijoo Legal Counsel for Luckia, María José Gallardo VP of R.Franco Spain and Alberto Eljarrat Chief Executive of Sportium have commited to representing the Gambling industry as CAJR members.

Alberto Eljarrat (Sportium) commented to Azar Plus: “The creation of the CAJR (Advisory Board for Responsible Gaming) is good news. The working group represents all the sectors involved and will allow to collect all the sensitivities with the aim of promoting a responsible game, and a socially sustainable activity. We are honored to participate and collaborate with the other agents involved. “
