GBGB recruits Philip Law as greyhound racing’s new regulatory lead 

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) – the governing and welfare body of UK greyhound racing has restructured the duties of its executive leadership team. 

The announcement follows the appointment of Philip Law as GBGB’s new Director of Regulation, taking leadership of British greyhound racing’s regulatory and compliance disciplines.

The appointment will see Mark Bird who has formally served as GBGB Managing Director and regulatory lead, take on the dedicated leadership position of GBGB Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

An expert in sports integrity, litigation and stakeholder management, Law joins GBGB from the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants. Law maintains previous high-level sports governance experience, having served as the chair and a panel member of the England Boxing National Disciplinary Panel.

In this remit,  Law will oversee all matters relating to GBGB’s regulatory function, including registration, licensing, disciplinary matters and the drug sampling programme.

”As Chief Executive, Mark can now focus all his time and energies on our driving our sport forward – both in terms of raising welfare standards and exploring commercial opportunities.  Mark has played a pivotal role in implementing these initiatives and I look forward to seeing the sport progress and evolve over the next few years.”

Commenting on his appointment, Law said – “I am an avid sports fan and am very familiar with the sporting regulatory landscape. As a sport involving animals, it is so important that GBGB and our licensees constantly uphold the high welfare and integrity standards that we all want and expect from the sport.
