Senet Australia appoints Paul Newsom as new client advisory lead

Senet, a multidisciplinary consultancy specialising in gambling compliance, law and business guidance for Australia’s wagering marketplace, has confirmed the appointment of Paul Newsom as its new Head of Advisory Practice.

A recognised figurehead for Australian gambling, Newsom most recently served as Deputy Secretary of the New South Wales Department of Industry, responsible for liquor, gambling and racing public policy and licensing obligations (2017 – 2019).

Prior to leading the NSW gambling board, Newsom served as interim Chief Executive of Greyhound Racing NSW (2015-2016), where he led a strategic review of the organisation following its well-publicised failings over animal treatment.

In his new remit, Newsom will be responsible for Senet’s strategic planning and guidance on regulatory affairs, carrying independent reviews of clients’ risk management and compliance structures.

Senet was established in 2018 by former Tabcorp Holdings General Counsel Julian Hoskins alongside former KPMG executive Alexandra Hoskins to provide a dedicated compliance and legislative consultancy for Australian gambling’s changing regulatory landscape.

“As previous CEO at Greyhound Racing NSW and Deputy Secretary responsible for liquor, gambling and racing in NSW, Paul brings unmatched regulatory knowledge and expertise to the Senet team,” said Julian Hoskins, Senet’s Principal of Gambling Law and Regulation Practice.

“No other firm offers the breadth of specialist services Senet does, and Paul’s reputation for advancing regulatory policy and practice precedes him.

“Paul led the strategic positioning and direction of the NSW Responsible Gambling Fund which substantially enhanced its capacity to tackle gambling-related harm.

“And given his advocacy for innovation and sustainable industry development, he’s a perfect fit for the work we do, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
