Novomatic’s claim against EGT dismissed by District Court Berlin

Novomatic AG’s claim against Euro Games Technology Ltd (“EGT”) has been dismissed by the District Court Berlin. It was initially announced in October 2016 that Novomatic AG would initiate court proceedings against EGT.

The claim, made against Sofia based Euro Games Technology Ltd and German sales partner D-Systems GmbH claimed that some of EGT’s games systematically and unfairly utilised essential elements of its own games.

The hearing on May 9th saw Novomatic’s claims for injunctive relief, information and damages dismissed by the District Court of Berlin, outlining that the claims may neither be based on trademark law or competition law.

Vladimir Dokov, CEO of EGT, commented: “We were very confident that the District Court of Berlin would dismiss the claim. We considered the allegations as unfounded from the beginning, as our products are highly innovative and our R&D department focuses on current and modern technologies. We will continue to expand our market position on the basis of our own developments and advanced know-how.”

EGT was founded in 2002 and is based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The company undertakes development, production and distribution of a wide range of gaming products.

EGT products are operated in over 80 countries across Europe, North America, LATAM, Asia and Africa. The company employs over 1350 people across 20 foreign offices and distributors across the world.
