William Hall has reported that a fan in Leicester has decided to cash in on his bet for the Foxes to win the Premier League title to the tune of £29,788.
The customer had placed a £20 each way bet after the first round of Premier League fixtures with odds of 2500/1. He stood to win £51,600 if Claudio Ranieri’s men can hold their nerve and top spot for the remaining nine games.
According to staff in the William Hill shop in central Leicester: “The punter has been in and out of the shop for the last three or four weeks seeing what his cash out value would be and finally on Monday he came in and told us that after discussions with his wife, he had to cash in.”
This cash out decision follows similar decisions by Ladbrokes customers in the past few days. One anonymous punter collected a whopping £72,000 having placed an audacious £50 bet at the start of the season. Another example is that of John Pryke who took home £29,000 from an initial £20 stake.
There remain a number of Leicester bettors holding tight however, and William Hill alone stands to pay out over £2m.
William Hill Press Officer Joe Crilly said: “Leicester are in possibly their strongest position of the season so far, yet it is now that people are starting to consider cashing out. We could do with a few more taking the bait as a Leicester win could cost us a small fortune.”
Leicester City to win the league is currently priced at 5/4 with the bookmaker, with Spurs the second favourites at 11/4.
