The company currently employs over 12,500 people in its UK retail business and while the majority are currently above the national minimum wage around 4,500 will benefit from the new National Living Wage. The voluntary application to 18-25s will benefit 2,000 colleagues in that age group.

William Hill Chief Executive Officer James Henderson started out working in a betting shop in 1985.

He said of the company’s decision: “I am pleased to announce that William Hill will commit to paying the National Living Wage to all our employees, including under-25 year olds from April 1st. Our shop colleagues are key to providing an enjoyable, responsible environment for customers in all our 2,370 locations and therefore think it only fair to extend it.”
