The divisive Donald Trump is now overwhelming 1/2 favourite with bookmaker William Hill to secure the Republican nomination.
The businessman turned media personality turned presidential candidate has also had his odds slashed to 5/2 meaning he’s now the second favourite to win the race to the White House following his latest success in Nevada.
William Hill Spokesman Graham Sharpe said of the unexpected turn of events: “Mr Trump has triumphed yet again, despite political analysts almost unanimously writing him off as a serious Presidential contender.”
He added: “However, political punters, who have been betting on him becoming President since he was 200/1 to do so are closing in on the biggest Presidential payout since we started betting on US Elections some fifty years ago. One customer of ours alone, John Mappin, from Cornwall in the West Country of England, will collect at least $100,000 if Trump wins.”
Mappin then will be hoping that Trump proves his many, many doubters and does the unthinkable by becoming the next US President. Hillary Clinton remains favourite at 4/5 to win the presidency and 1/7 to become the democratic candidate, with Bernie Sanders next in line at 11/2.
