The Irish Independent has reported that Paddy Power Retail Managing Director Christian Woolfenden has left the operator, moving back to the UK.

The newspaper reports that, Head of Retail Operations Dan Taylor, will fill the role vacated on an interim basis.

Woolfenden leaves Paddy Power following five years’ service, primarily as Chief Marketing Officer (2010 – 2014).

During his tenure as CMO, Woolfenden was credited with leading Paddy Power’s new marketing and brand direction, which saw the bookmaker gain high social coverage and user engagement throughout its media channels.

Woolfenden had taken over as MD of retail at the start of 2015, as Paddy Power appointed Andy McCue as its CEO, replacing Patrick Kennedy.

Paddy Power confirmed to the Irish Independent that Woolfenden’s exit was in no way related to the its potential merger with Betfair, which this month entered phase 1 of its Irish Competition & Consumer Protection Commission review.

The departure of Woolfenden sees a further senior exit from Paddy Power marketing and operations. In August the bookmaker announced that Harry Dromey, Paddy Power Mischief Champion’ (official title), had left the company to become Channel 4 Group Head of Marketing.
