Hollywood’s biggest night ‘The Oscars’ may be five months away, however William Hill has alerted the media that it has recorded a big money wager on movie ‘Spotlight’ to win the 2015 Best Picture Award.

Reacting to the market, the bookmaker has placed ‘Spotlight’, directed by Tom McCarthy and starring Rachel McAdams and Liev Schreiber, as early market favourite, lowering the movies’ odds from 33/1 to 3/1.

William Hill stated that it was surprised at the big money wager placed on ‘Spotlight’, as movie studios have yet to release their catalogue of Oscar contenders for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts to judge for official awards contention.

“We are hearing big things about Spotlight and it would seem that our punters have as well and it is now clear favourite to pick up the Best Picture at next year’s Academy Awards,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

‘Spotlight’ the true story of the Boston Globe’s investigation of child molestation by the Massachusetts Catholic Archdiocese leads former joint favourites ‘The Revenant’ (Alejandro González Iñárritu) and ‘Joy’ (David O Russell) which are priced by William Hill at 6/1.

William Hill further detailed that it had lowered its odds on ‘Room’ starring Brie Larson winning best picture from 40/1 to 7/1 following its win of the People Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival.
