Ladbrokes Plc has announced the retirement of Darren Shapland as Non-Executive director. Shapland leaves the operator following, six years’ service, five of which he served as Chair of the Audit Committee
The Ladbrokes board, informed its operations and the media that it had begun to look for Shapland’s replacement, and that it expects to make an announcement on the pending replacement in due course.
Shapland who joined the Ladbrokes board in December 2009, had served as Chief Executive of Carpetright plc between 2012 and 2013 having joined as a non-executive director in 2011.
The veteran financial specialist, had further served as Chief Financial Officer and Group Development Director of J Sainsbury plc from 2005 to 2011 as well as Chairman of Sainsburys Bank.
Prior to this he was Group Finance Director of Carpetright plc (2002-2005) and Finance Director of Superdrug Stores plc (2002-2002) and held a number of senior financial and operational roles with Arcadia Group (1988-2000).
Ladbrokes Chairman Peter Erskine commented on the departure of Shapland:

“A search for a successor is progressing well with the aim to find a candidate who will go on to be part of the board for the proposed Ladbrokes Coral plc.”
