Racing UK to broadcast 14 hours of live coverage

TVbroadcast

Racing UK is devoting 14 hours of live coverage to the UK and the US’s most significant Classic races this season – the Investec Derby and the Belmont Stakes.

‘Classic Saturday’ gets underway at 10am on Racing UK (Sky 432/Virgin 536/UPC 411/Freeview 231) with build-up to the ‘World’s Greatest Flat Race’ – the Investec Derby – which is off at 4.30pm. A top-class supporting card from Epsom is headed by the Investec Coronation Cup at 3.10pm.

Racing UK, the British home of the US Triple Crown, will then turn its focus Stateside and show five Grade One races live from Belmont Park in a five-hour special starting at 7.30pm

All eyes will be on American Pharoah, who bids to become the first horse in 37 years to win the US Triple Crown when he lines up for the final leg at 11.50pm.

The last horse to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont races was Affirmed, who became racing’s 11th Triple Crown winner in 1978. Since then, 12 horses have tried unsuccessfully to complete the sweep.

Racing UK, the only channel in the UK to show all three legs of the US Triple Crown – the holy grail of American horseracing – will be incorporating NBC coverage alongside Racing UK’s American experts, Angus McNae, James Willoughby and Rachel Candelora, plus Timeform’s Mark Milligan.

The coverage runs from 7.30pm to 12.30pm (all times BST):

  • 7.34      NYRA Brooklyn Invitational Stakes (G2)
  • 8.15      TVG Acorn Stakes (G1)
  • 9.00      Longines Just a Game Stakes (G1)
  • 9.49      Metropolitan Handicap (G1)
  • 10.46    Knob Creek Manhattan Stakes (G1)
  • 11.50    Belmont Stakes presented by DraftKings (G1)
