The Portuguese football leagues ruling body Liga Portugal has criticised the suggestions of match fixing by Federbet, the international agency for detection and prevention of illegal sports betting practices.
Following a review Federbet had openly announced that it had recorded suspicious activities surrounding a number of games throughout Portuguese professional football leagues.
Liga Portugal has moved to dismiss the claims made by Federbet with regards to match fixing in the Portuguese leagues. The ruling body stated that it had no association with Federbet, and that it had not commissioned any report to be undertaken by the agency.
Liga Portugal would criticise Federbet actions and monitoring methods undertaken with regards to Portugal’s professional leagues
“The formula that it has been using is a means of absolutely deplorable pressure: instead of reporting it to the competent authorities, in a reserved manner, without public outcry, suspected criminal behaviour, it chooses to launch public suspicion, shamelessly, on our clubs and our sports competitions,”
The ruling body stated that it was committed to preventing and eradicating match fixing from Portuguese football. Liga Portugal would confirm that it had been approached by Federbet over he possibility of working together, but the services were of “absolutely unaffordable amounts” to the body.
