Queensland horse racing facility delayed

queenslandConstruction of the Australian Quarter Horse Racing AUS $60 million (£31 million) racing facility at Gympie in Southern Queensland has been delayed by a year.

Last year Queensland state government granted an Australian and American consortium a licence to develop the property at Gympie. The development plans included the construction of a hotel, a convention centre and residential housing for staff.

The consortium has met operational issues that have delayed the construction of the project

Quarter Horse Racing Chairman Allan Murnane said the size of the project had led to the delay but work was progressing.

“We are in a series of negotiations at the moment that involve due diligence on the land and that work has been going on for the last few months and then also in discussions with the entity who we are actually talking to who is building the track,” he said.

“We have put our efforts into the core of this whole concept which is the racing industry itself, so the track, the facilities, the operations and how the wagering will work, the vision, so all those things that are integral to the whole concept working in this industry.”
