Ahead of Saturday’s Aintree Grand National Broadcast, Channel 4 Racing has released positive viewing figures for its first ever Good Friday broadcast. Channel 4 Racing described the peak audience of 470,000 who tuned in to watch the All Weather Finals Day at Lingfield Racecourse as ‘Very Solid’.

The programs management was pleased with the growth in average viewer figures, which were up 40% on the 330,000 achieved for last year’s two-day Epsom meeting. Aided by the Easter holiday break, Channel 4 Racing’s Good Friday broadcast had come close to matching viewing figures for more renowned racing meets.

The positive viewing results will please the broadcaster ahead of Saturday’s Grand National race, as UK media sources are predicting TV figures of more than 10 million viewers.

Last March Channel 4 Racing announced its broadcast team for the Grand National, with racing expert Nick Luck appointed lead anchor. Luck replaces outgoing Claire Balding who departs to BT Sports.

Luck will be joined by popular flat jockey champion Frankie Dettori and Channel 4 fashion expert Gok Wan as the Channel 4 Racing looks to broaden the appeal of the race.
