FIFA match data and analysis subsidiary Early Warning System (EWS) and the Japan Football Association (JFA) agreed on 16 February 2015 to extend a monitoring service agreement in order to protect the integrity of football competitions in Japan.
EWS will continue to work alongside the JFA to protect the integrity of football in the region by assisting the JFA with specific services, knowledge transfer and technical facilities. EWS will monitor betting markets for irregularities and analyse specific match situations in their sporting context. If EWS’ analysis indicates strong grounds for suspected match manipulation, it will alert the JFA. Cooperation on this long-term initiative began in 2010.
“We are proud to be working with the JFA for the fifth consecutive year,” said FIFA Director of Security Ralf Mutschke. “The JFA is a very strong partner in the global fight against match manipulation and such cooperation with our member associations represents a fundamental keystone of our overall strategy.”
EWS plays an important role in FIFA’s integrity initiative. It also provides the JFA with essential support in the areas of prevention, risk management and information gathering.
