Former England cricketer turned TV personality Phil Tufnell, affectionately known as ‘The Cat’ has today been confirmed as guest presenter of the prestigious Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of the Year Awards. The  awards ceremony  will be held at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, on Monday November 24, when eight regional champions will battle it out one last time before the overall winner is crowned.

Tufnell  played for England 42 times and is now widely known for his current role as one of the captains on the BBC’s A Question of Sport.

Tufnell commented: “I am delighted to have been asked to present the winner of this year’s Betting Shop Manager of the Year with their trophy. I know the competition is fierce and to become a finalist is a huge achievement. Betting shops are the backbone of the betting industry. Good luck to all of the entrants in the final judging stages which take place at Doncaster this weekend.”

George Irvine, managing director, betting and international, SIS Betting said: “We are delighted that Phil Tufnell is able to join us for the awards. These awards are not only about the winners but also about recognising the hard work of all betting shop managers across the UK and Ireland. We look forward to welcoming him to the awards lunch.”
Brough Scott, chairman of the judging panel, added: “As the number of betting shops whose doors are being closed continues to rise, these awards become ever more important. We have seen a huge number of nominations and every year are even more impressed with the quality of the entries. As more pressure is put on the retail outlets from online business, these managers are constantly being asked to innovate and these Awards recognise their hard work.”

The overall winner can look forward to a fulfilling year as a high-profile representative of betting shops throughout Britain and Ireland and will be treated to a first-class trip to the Singapore Airlines International Cup, sponsored by the Singapore Turf Club.
