World Cup winner Matthäus leads football coverage on LeoVegas

Lothar Matthäus, the most experienced player in FIFA World Cup history, has taken the football coverage on LeoVegas to a new level ahead of this summer’s tournament in Russia.

The former midfielder, who captained West Germany to victory in the 1990 World Cup final in one of 25 appearances spread over five tournaments, has completed his first month as brand ambassador for LeoVegas SPORT in German-speaking countries.

Matthäus, described by LeoVegas as “THE expert when it comes to football”, continues to provide score predictions for every Bundesliga and Champions League game, which will be supplemented with tips for all matches at Russia 2018.

This is in addition to ‘Lothar’s bet of the month’, a selection that is then offered to German players with enhanced odds by the Scandinavian-based operator. The selection is promoted on both LeoVegas’ German portals and social media profiles.

An example of this as a customer benefit came just over two weeks ago, after Matthäus backed Bayern Munich to beat Besiktas by three clear goals in the Champions League last 16, with either Thomas Müller or Robert Lewandowski to score.

Müller found the net after just 43 minutes, while his second of the night just after the hour stretched Bayern’s lead to three. As it happened, Lewandowski scored two late goals of his own to wrap up an easy win and a comfortable night for those who took the bet at enhanced odds of 2.50.

Tobias Scholz, Head of LeoVegas SPORT in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, said: “I can’t put into words how proud we are to have Lothar Matthäus on our team. He’s a true expert in his field, maybe even THE expert when it comes to football.

“He’s somebody that people associate with being competitive, ambitious and successful like nobody else – qualities that we, as a sports betting company, experience on a day-to-day basis and that are at the core of our #GameOn campaign.”

Matthäus added: “Unlike any other company in the industry, LeoVegas SPORTS is passionate about challenges and tough duels, whereby competitive fun is always the most important aspect.

“Crucial games in the national leagues, European cups and, of course, the World Cup in Russia this summer offer the perfect opportunity to start experiencing and discussing major sporting events together with the LeoVegas SPORT community.”

Matthäus has 150 international caps, making him Germany’s most capped player. One of the five honorary captains of the German national team, he is both a European and World champion, and remains the only German footballer to receive the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Football legend Diego Maradona said: “Lothar Matthäus was a fantastic player, what you would call a complete footballer. He was, without doubt, definitely the best player I came up against during my career. I really don’t think there’s anything more I can add to that.”
