Marathonbet: Can Teddy Sheringham triumph over Wealdstone FC?

Marathonbet has today announced that Teddy Sheringham will be joining the Premier League All Stars line up which will face Wealdstone FC this Sunday in the culmination of the bookmaker’s Non-League Challenge (NLC) campaign. MarathonbetNLC#2

Wealdstone were the winners of Marathonbet’s Non-League Challenge last season which saw them rewarded with a cheque of £10,000 courtesy of the bookmaker in addition to this match.

A total of 68 clubs took part in the NLC ultimate goal celebration competition.

This was eventually whittled down to a shortlist which Wealdstone, made famous by their super fan the Wealdstone Raider, earned the most votes in.

Tom Zanelli, the creator of the NLC campaign, said: “It’s been nine months since Marathonbet launched the Non-League Challenge. We expected passion, dedication and enthusiasm from the communities and clubs involved in grassroots football. And that’s exactly what we got.

“It’s an exciting and original concept that we’re looking forward to doing again and again. We believe it’s the start of something special!”

The full team of former stars will be managed by Alan Curbishley and includes:  Maik Taylor (GK), Lauren (RB), Daniel Gabbidon (CB), Frank Sinclair (CB), Michael Duberry (CB), Nigel Winterburn (LB), Chris Powell (LB), Darren Anderton (RM), Trevor Sinclair (RM), Matt Holland (CM), Muzzy Izzet (CM), Hayden Mullins (CM), Ruel Fox (LM), Dion Dublin (ST), Kevin Davies (ST), Clinton Morrison (ST) and Teddy Sheringham (ST).

It’s been eight years since Sheringham last appeared as a pro in a career which saw him win a Champions League medal with Manchester United and earn over 50 caps for England.

Watch Teddy discuss his upcoming comeback below.

Zanelli added: “We’re so pleased that the first NLC winners, Wealdstone FC, can celebrate their success against a team of Premier League legends this weekend. Fingers crossed for the sunshine – and we hope to see you all there.”

Tickets are available now priced at £10 for Adults, £5 Concessions and £2 for children. It’s at Wealdstone’s Grosvenor Value Stadium this Sunday July 31st.

You can buy tickets in advance from the Wealdstone FC site.
