Unibet have announced that they will be the title sponsors of September’s inaugural PDC Champions League Darts event, live on the BBC from Cardiff.
The eight-player tournament will see the PDC make history with its first tournament broadcast live by BBC Sport, following a new deal which was announced in February 2016.
The Unibet Champions League will take place on September 24-25 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, and will feature the world’s top eight players, drawn into two groups of four.
The players will play one group match per session on Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, before the top two players from each group proceed to compete in Sunday evening’s decisive semi-finals and final.
Unibet’s sponsorship of the Champions League sees them follow up their existing sponsorships of the European Championship and Masters, and adds to their new backing of the Unibet World Grand Prix, which will take place in October.
Chris Watson, Unibet UK Marketing Manager, said: “The Unibet Champions League of Darts is going to be a real showpiece event this year for the PDC, and the extensive BBC coverage will allow Unibet to reach a large audience of passionate sports fans with our brand.
“We are delighted to be involved as headline sponsor for such a spectacular event, to continue our strong growth in the UK and to further our support for the PDC”.
Barry Hearn, PDC Chairman, commented: “It’s fantastic that Unibet were so keen to extend their partnership with the PDC to include the Unibet Champions League.
“This unique tournament will be another great showcase for the ever-growing Unibet brand, and we look forward to working with them for this eagerly-awaited championship, which will receive huge national and international exposure through the BBC.”
