Trump was originally priced at odds of 100/1 by William Hill to do so.

This was back in March 2015, though odds quickly tumbled to 25/1 by the end of that same month as the bets came in and it appeared that the outspoken businessman might have a shot.

Trump is now 7/4 to succeed Barack Obama with Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton still the strong favourite at 4/9.

William Hill Spokesman Joe Crilly said: “Trump becoming President would not quite be in the Leicester City league of upsets but in political betting it would certainly ‘trump’ the comparatively short upsets of the EU Referendum outcome and the Tories winning the General Election.”

In May William Hill took a £5000 wager from a client on a political double; the EU Referendum to result in a Leave decision and Trump to become the next president. Will Hill Spokesman Graham Sharpe said at the time: “The customer told staff it was the first time he’d had a political wager and that he feels both parts of the bet offer attractive odds.”

The hopeful client stands to take home over £39,000 should Trump make history in November. Former contender for the Republican candidacy, Ted Cruz, was booed on stage last night as he failed to endorse Trump.
