6 of the Best: Prophet’s Dean Sisun and Jake Benzaquen

In this week’s 6 of the Best, we have a joint submission from the co-founders of Prophet, Dean Sisun and Jake Benzaquen. They tell us about who they think is the best lyricist of their generation, and which bet has stood out for them.

Best Holiday

Dean: New Zealand. I rented a ridiculous hippie-style van called the “ALF” with a few of my friends and backpacked across the South Island for 8 days. We went bungee jumping in Queenstown, and the free fall was the greatest seven seconds of my life.

Best Film

Jake: Django Unchained. Jamie Foxx is extraordinary in that role, and like most Tarantino films, it is an absolute masterpiece with a really high-calibre cast.

Best Album

Dean: The Eminem Show. No one strings together sentences like Eminem. The album went multi-platinum and was number one in 19 countries, which is testament to how good it was. He is the greatest lyricist of my generation.

Best Sporting Experience

Jake: 2016 UEFA Champions League semi-finals at the Vicente Calderon. I was living in Madrid and Atletico were hosting Bayern in the first leg. Atletico’s Saul Niguez scored 11 minutes in. It was the loudest roar I’ve ever heard from a stadium and the energy in there is something I have never experienced since. It was quite the effort from Saul too, just everything about that moment and match was extraordinary.

Best Book

Dean: Outliers by Malcom Gladwell. Such a fascinating book surrounding why certain trends exist in society today. For example, why a majority hockey players are born in the months January – March, how Bill Gates achieved his extreme wealth, how the Beatles became so successful, and many others. The definition of a page-turner.

Best Bet

Jake: I had Ajax to win the Champions League last year at 80/1. It was such an incredible journey they went on, eliminating some big, big sides such as Real Madrid and Juventus, as well as taking a first leg lead in their semi-final. Thankfully I hedged my bets by backing Liverpool in the semis, as any chance of cashing out was negated by the awful rate offered by my bookie. If only I had Prophet available then!
