Best Holiday

My trip to the Philippines and Busuanga Bay Lodge a few years ago for Christmas must rank here. A wonderful place – awesome weather, awesome people and fantastic scenery. I wrote a few blog posts which you can find on www.adriaan.com.

Best Album

Pink Floyd would be the band, but I’m torn between their simpler but superb offerings like ‘Wish you were here’ and ‘Animals’ and the epic ‘The Wall’ – a production in its own right.

I wish I had been able to go to the concert in Berlin when the wall came down! The Wall came out when I was in final years at school in South Africa and was fresh on my first visit to the UK in 1979. A lot of the emotion in the album synched with what I experienced at that time in the UK.

Best Film

Probably ‘Pulp Fiction’. Raw, different (at the time) and still an amazing movie.

Best Sporting Experience

I am a keen sailor so would have to go for one of my America’s Cup visits – probably Valencia 2007, which was the last with the monohulls and had a lot of teams and great atmosphere.

I was fortunate to get onto the South African team support boat, and had a great time getting close to the racing and meeting the team (who by the finals had been knocked out of the competition).

Best Book

‘The Fountainhead’ by Ayn Rand was a seminal influence in my life at University. I quite enjoyed Atlas Shrugs but I think the Fountainhead has to get this one.

Best Bet

Trump to become US president on bet365 – can’t remember the odds but I got it on really early when no one thought he had a chance.
