Tom Seymour – Durham CCC – Working with a Winner

Tom SeymourTom Seymour is the Commercial Director at Durham County Cricket Club (CCC), a former home for many greats of the sport including Mike Hussey, Kumar Sangakkara, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Shoaib Akhtar. Current stars include England internationals Ben Stokes and Mark Wood.

Just last week, the club announced that they had made a deal with Winner Sports to become its official betting partner. To correspond with this announcement, SBC News caught up with Tom to discuss the terms of the deal and Durham’s plans for maximising the potential of the partnership.

SBC: Hi Tom. Late last year you mentioned that finding a new betting partner for Durham CCC was a big part of your strategy for 2016; how happy are you to tie up this deal with Winner Sports?

TS: We are delighted to welcome Winner Sports on board at Durham CCC. Though it is only on an initial one-year deal, we anticipate a mutually beneficial partnership and are already looking forward towards a more long-term deal. We have been looking to recruit an official betting partner for many years, and so we were delighted to get this deal done with Winner.

SBC: Despite this new deal, we understand that the Aussie lager Foster’s will continue as shirt sponsor; how much exposure will Winner Sports get around the Emirates Riverside?

TS: Our shirt sponsorship deal with Fosters is a five-year deal that began at the start of this season and has proven a success so far. The Winner Sports advertising boards will be visible around Emirates Riverside for all domestic and international fixtures.

This includes TV coverage on Sky Sports for two home fixtures in the 2016 domestic season alongside England international fixtures in 2017/18 and the 2019 Cricket World Cup, when a number of fixtures will come to the North East.

SBC: Do you have any examples of the exclusive offers and markets that Winner Sports will be able to create around Durham CCC matches? And what will be the primary means of promotion for these offers?

TS: Winner Sports will provide exclusive in-play specials for markets involving Durham in all competitions, which will encourage our fans and members to bet with our official betting partners for the best priced odds. Our social media following is large and our promotions will largely be via these platforms, allowing us to reach as many cricket fans as possible.

SBC: Things are really looking up for Durham, with an unbeaten start to the County Championship and the successful hosting of England’s Test Match win over Sri Lanka; what’s next on the agenda for you? Maybe a Fantasy Betting Partner?

TS: The team have made an excellent start and are looking for our fourth Specsavers County Championship title, while the club continues to promote a line of exciting, home grown talents from the academy. We enjoyed another successful Test match and also hosted a Simply Red concert with another in the pipeline in August, so the club is making great strides both on and off the pitch.

As a business, we are always looking to explore new and exciting avenues and so a Fantasy Betting Partner may be something we have in the pipeline in the coming few months.

SBC: And finally, after a pretty one-sided Test series with Sri Lanka, how do you see things going for England during the upcoming series with Pakistan? Can we get a score prediction?

TS: If England beat Pakistan, they will hold a Test series victory over every side simultaneously and so the motivation is definitely there. From our perspective, it is unfortunate that Ben Stokes and Mark Wood have been injured after representing us at international level over recent years, so we hope they can force their way back into the side upon returning to fitness.

As far as a score prediction, I think England will win comfortably 3-0, allowing for one game to fall victim to the English summer weather!
