Spanish giants Real Madrid may have been trophyless this season, but there is one table that Cristiano Ronaldo’s side has topped, beating other football clubs from all over Europe.
Real Madrid were the most popular side being tipped on in the past season, according to bettingexpert – Europe’s biggest community of sports tipsters, with almost 9,000 tips across the course of the season. There were almost two million predictions across the past football season that bettingexpert users were able to access free of charge at bettingexpert.com, and the famous Madrid side were featured in more of them than any other side.
Real Madrid pipped Spanish rivals Barcelona into second place, with just over 7,000 tips on the games involving the Champions League finalists.
Surprisingly, the English team that attracted the most tips across the season from bettingexpert’s huge network of tipsters was Liverpool, who edged Arsenal into fourth, Chelsea into sixth, Manchester City into seventh and who was comfortably clear of Manchester United in ninth.
Other clubs that made the top 10 include Italian champions Juventus in fifth, French champions Paris Saint Germain in eighth and Borussia Dortmund in tenth, surprisingly finding themselves ahead of compatriots Bayern Munich.
bettingexpert’s Gavin Moore explained: “It is perhaps no surprise that Real Madrid attracted the most tips given that they are one of the most famous clubs in the world. That tends to mean more people have a view on how they are going to perform. Indeed Liverpool’s global appeal appears to have enabled it to leapfrog above other teams that they struggled to outperform on the pitch.
“However popularity doesn’t necessarily translate into tips – look at Manchester United down in ninth. Their topsy-turvy first season under Louis van Gaal meant they were much harder to predict.”
