As Las Vegas gears up to host the boxing fight of the decade between Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Vs Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao on 2 May at the MGM Grand. The city’s licensed sportsbooks have stated that early bet wagering estimates of $50-$60 million may have been somewhat conservative.

With less than nine days to go Las Vegas bookmakers have witnessed vast sums of money placed early on the fighters, as the Mayweather vs Pacquiao has not only dominated US sporting headlines, but entertainment and gossip columns with fights seats selling at a staggering £60,000.

Speaking to CBS Sports network Westgate Sportsbook Vice President of Operations Jay Kornegay stated that the Westgate expected to see its biggest betting handle on a boxing fight. Kornegay further stated that the fight would easily break the $60 million mark which had been estimated at the start of April.

Kornegay gave further insight into the betting market as fight night approaches, stating that the Westgate had seen lots of early betting action on fight underdog Pacquiao.

Las Vegas betting insiders have backed the statements made, noting that the fight could reach NFL betting levels surpassing the $100 million mark. At present the 2014 Super Bowl between the Denver Broncos vs Seattle Seahawks holds the city’s betting record at $119 million.

The Nevada Gaming Commission who monitor wagering for licensed sportsbooks, will not release the official wagering data of the fight, as the governing body does not allow for the release of individual boxing match betting data due to integrity matters.

Nevertheless all Las Vegas sportsbooks appear to agree that Mayweather Vs Pacquiao will break all betting on boxing records. With the Kentucky Derby hosted on the same night, 2 May will be a day  to remember for all Vegas Sportsbooks
