Tatts Group has stated its ‘strong interest’ in acquiring Western Australia licensed betting operator TAB (WA TAB), if it were to be put on the market by the state government.

Tatts Group currently owns TAB operations for Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania. The operator is keen to acquire the Western Australian operator, to complete its full acquisition of TAB Australia operators.

Last month Tatts group confirmed that it would merge all its betting operations under the newly created UBET brand.

In the past six months, Tatts Group CEO Robbie Cooke has had frequent discussions with Western Australia officials with regards to a potential purchase of WA TAB.

Last month Australian sports betting market reports confirmed that WA TAB, had been losing market share to private owned bookmakers who are subject to lower licence fees.

Robbie Cooke has stated that the merging of TAB operations under the UBET brand will see Tatts Group incorporate a new market strategy for its sports betting operations. UBET will begin to focus corporate competencies on creating competitive digital products.
