The £25 million construction of Middlesbrough’s casino complex has been left in doubt as Stockton based commercial property developer Jomast Developments has not been able to confirm when work will begin on the planned site.
The developer beat off competition from Aspers and Apollo Leisure , to win approval of licensing to begin construction of a casino and hotel complex in Middlesbrough town centre in 2012. The developer had plans to convert the vacant Gurney House building into leisure centre consisting of hotels, restaurants and a multi-storey car park built around a casino,
At the time of the awarding of the Licence to Jomast Developments, Middlesbrough council estimated that the building of the casino complex would create around 400 full time jobs
At present no work has begun on the site, the developer is yet to confirm a construction start date or whether it plans to build the casino complex. Jomast will not say whether the casino operator and hotel leisure chains which expressed interest at the time are still involved in the project.
