6 of the Best – Apps4 web media’s Alex Windsor

This week’s 6 of the Best comes from Alex Windsor, founder of Apps4 web media.

Keep reading to discover a sporting VIP experience that left Windsor hooked, a Premier League flop who proved to be an unlikely scorer in a winning wager and wide musical taste.

Best Album

I love listening to music, be it in the car, in the office or when I am running. I have a very wide taste in music and like lots of different styles from different decades. My favourite album is The Marshall Mathers LP by Eminem.

It may be a few years old now but was on repeat constantly when I was growing up. It reminds me of good times at University, making new memories and new friends. I listened to it a few weeks back and it is still as good today as it was back then. Hard to believe it was the year 2000 when it came out, only seems like it was a few years ago.

Best Holiday

I love holidays and travelling so it is difficult to pick my best as they are all so good for lots of different reasons, but if I had to pick one, it would have been my holiday last year, as it was also my honeymoon as well. The best for lots of reasons. I had just got married the week before, and it was also the first time taking my then 8 month old son on holiday too. We went to Lyttos Beach in Greece for 2 weeks and loved every minute of it.

Laying in the sun, drinking lots of beer and playing in the swimming pool with my little boy. The World Cup was on too, so it was a chance for me to sneak off and get some peace and quiet and watch England too. Not that we got as far in the competition as we had hoped. We met some really good friends and made some great memories. I can’t wait to go away again with them all, it’s the only real time I really relax and switch off.

Best Film

I have got quite a few best films but my favourite & film is 300. I remember watching it at the cinema and thinking wow. I have lost track of how many times I have watched it since. The special effects were amazing and watching it on a big screen just made it even better. I love the action and fighting scenes, the story, the detail and the fact it is loosely based on a true story makes it even better. In fact I am going to be watching it this weekend as it’s been a while since I put it on. HD is good, but not as good as a cinema with the surround sound. My other favourite films that run 300 close would be the Lord Of The Rings, Return of the King and the Matrix.

Best Sporting Experience

I have been to a fair few sporting events over the years, some as a guest of an operator. My favourite would be when one of my biggest clients took me to Wimbledon. They got us great seats on the Centre Court, and we saw some of the best tennis players on the planet play right in front of us. I wasn’t a big tennis fan before going but after, I couldn’t stop watching and watched it every day on TV.

Not only Wimbledon, they took us across the road to the exclusive Gatsby club for lunch and of course strawberries and cream and Pimms. A quick bite to eat then back across to Centre Court to watch some more games along with more Pimms. It was a great day, and I have been hooked on Tennis ever since. The full VIP treatment certainly helped the day stand out.

Best Book

I don’t get as much chance as I would like to read these days and tend to start to read a book, have to put it down and then not start again. One book that I did read cover to cover was called The Game by Neil Strauss. It is about a journalist who dives deep in to the world of a pickup artist. I was a young, influential (single) man at the time of reading and it blew my mind what these guys were doing. I never put any of it in to practice but it is worth a read to see what these guys got up to.

Best Bet

I don’t really have a lot of luck when it comes to betting so it easy to pick out my best punt. Back in the 2017/18 season, I put a half time result accumulator on one Sunday afternoon. I went for a 9 fold acca with pretty high odds that I thought I had no chance of winning so I out a massive £1 on as that was what I had left in one of my accounts. 8 results come in and I just needed one more to
win £330.

I can remember waiting for Valencia to be winning at half time and they scored in the 39th minute to go 1-0 up. Simone Zaza scored and made the bet land, I was amazed as he hardly ever scored! I know £330 isn’t a huge amount but not bad off £1. I also backed a few good winners when I was taken to Goodwood Racecourse with one of the operators back in 2015.
