Sportsbook provider Kambi says the upcoming European Championships in France will be the first major football tournament where second screen betting becomes the primary way to place a wager.

An analysis of data from the sportsbook provider also shows that the higher the profile of an event, the more likely it is that users will place a bet on a mobile device while watching the action.

For the biggest sporting events, around 65% of bets wagered through Kambi’s market-leading sportsbook come from mobile, compared to 45% for smaller events.

Kambi is gearing up for its busiest international football tournament to date, having recently signed and integrated three new operators in the last four months; LeoVegas, Mr Green, Rank Group and at the same time enabled some existing operators to operate in Italy, Germany and Romania.

Kambi CEO Kristian Nylén commented: “As with all football fans, we cannot wait for the big kick-off in France on Friday. It is sure to be an action-packed tournament on the pitch, but also off the pitch at Kambi where we are expecting a busy summer.

“Our analysis clearly shows that the trend towards mobile shows no sign of slowing. But what is particularly interesting is that the bigger the match, the more likely customers will reach for their phone to bet while keeping one eye on the action.

“As one of the pioneers of instant betting, we have seen demand for these markets grow in the past 12 months, demand is particularly strong in the mobile channel.  We expect this trend to continue and our operators will be empowered to offer these unique and exciting instant betting events during the tournament.”
