Denmark state-owned gambling operator Dansk Spil has informed the market that CEO Christian Madsen will step down from the leadership of the firm in April 2017.

Dansk Spil governance will now seek to replace Madsen who has served as CEO since 2005, with a successor expected to be announced by the start of 2017.

The news of Madsen’s departure follows speculation of the potential sale of Dansk Spil by ruling conservative-liberal party Venstre.

However Danish business news sources report that at present the national cabinet remains split regarding the sale of its state gambling asset and its impact on the funding of several charities and social initiatives.

The governance of Dansk Spil thanked Madsen for his 12 years’ service, which they declared had been critical in creating an effective and leading European state-owned gambling  operator.

Furthermore, Madsen leadership had been key to meeting the challenge of Denmark opening its market to international competitors and maintaining its positions as the country’s biggest gambling provider.
