888 Holdings subsidiary 888poker has confirmed that it will return as lead sponsor of live poker’s biggest tournament ‘The World Series of Poker’ (WSOP) for its 2016 edition.
888poker will replace US daily fantasy sports operator DraftKings as lead sponsor of the WSOP 2016.
Due to changes in Nevada laws relating to fantasy sports being deemed as a form of gambling and main broadcaster ESPN unable to advertise DraftKings’ services, WSOP organisers decided to terminate the tournaments existing partnership with Boston based company.
WSOP confirmed that 888poker will receive its ‘broad sponsorship pact’, which will see its brand promoted throughout the Rio Las Vegas venue from the 31 May to 14 July. 888poker will further gain exclusive rights to host online satellite qualifiers for the tournament.
Confirming the renewal of WSOP lead sponsorship. Itai Pazner 888 Senior Vice President & Head of B2C commented
“The World Series of Poker is the pinnacle of the poker calendar, this sponsorship is fantastic for the 888poker brand, for 888 players, and for the poker community in general.”
