Sweden’s state controlled gambling operator, Svenska Spel has requested a direct application from the Swedish Government, to allow the operator to launch an online casino product.
Senior management stated that Svenska Spel, would be looking to diversify their product inventory in the coming months. The Swedish operator would be looking to expand its online gaming presence with new verticals.
Svenska Spel implemented Swedish responsible gambling measures in December 2013, the state run operator reported that the safety measures had created a drop in profits of 6.2%. According to a report on 2014 Q1, “net gaming revenues decreased by SEK 186 million (£15.5 million) compared with the same period last year,
The Swedish government are currently reviewing legal and regulatory policy with regards to online gambling. In June the Swedish government launched a special investigation into advertising of online gambling products within Swedish Media.
