Entain Foundation backs Chance for Childhood’s Ghana project

Entain Plc has incorporated child poverty and equality charity ‘Chance for Childhood’ as a new global partner of its flagship Entain Foundation CSR programme.

Working with Chance for Childhood, the FTSE100 gambling group has launched a new pilot project titled ‘Change the first 1,000 Daysthat will support 600 out of school children in street situations in Accra, Ghana, to ensure they access and thrive in early childhood education.

Chance for Childhood is recognised as a leading on-the-ground charity supporting vulnerable children experiencing the most extreme circumstances of poverty, by helping rebuild communities for a better future.

“The Entain Foundation was set up to enable our business to contribute back to society and support communities around the globe. We are proud to be able to support the invaluable work of Chance for Childhood, to make a transformational positive impact on such vulnerable children,” commented Entain Group CEO Jette Nygaard-Andersen.

The Entain Foundation will support Chance for Childhood to work within 10 Government Kindergarten Schools in low-income areas of Accra, helping support teachers and community organisers to provide tailored services for children with special needs within an inclusive school environment.

The project has taken on its specific title, to highlight the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life, in which the brain begins to recognise its surrounding circumstances and as a critical period that impacts a poverty child’s chances of survival and positive outcome in adulthood.

Of note, the project will seek to produce first-time evidence on the specific learning needs of children within the urban context of Accra, acknowledging the multifaceted risks faced by Ghana’s children in low economic backgrounds that has been further compounded by significant shocks caused by COVID-19.

Anna-mai Andrews, Co-CEO Chance for Childhood, commented: “Chance for Childhood are absolutely delighted to join forces with The Entain Foundation and all their incredible team to support this critical work to transform the first 1,000 days of children living in some of the world’s most unsafe, violent and challenging environments.”
