The Champions League tie between Borussia Dortmund and Monaco came out as the top match in April on bettingexpert, with Unibet the top bookmaker for the match at the Westfalenstadion.
Statistics from the bettingexpert community showed 238 tips on the quarter final first leg, with 52 of those placed on Unibet (21%), 33 on bet365 (13.9%) and 19 on William Hill (8%).
The second most popular match was the first leg of the quarter-final between Juventus and Barcelona, which saw the home side take the spoils and bet365 attract the most tips (22.4%).
For a month of high-profile matches, it was no surprise to see football emerge as the number one sport, although Over/Under edging out 1×2 as the most popular market was slightly unexpected. 29.5% of the football tips were attributed to that market, with 21.5% of those on bet365.
Basketball came in ahead of tennis as the second most popular sport, with Over/Under accounting for 41.6% of the tips. 19.8% of those Over/Under tips were made on Unibet, who also led the way with the highest share of tips on Asian Handicap, the second most popular market for the sport.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on 5 April was declared as the month’s most profitable single match with a total stake payout of 668.06. The match at Stamford Bridge was especially punter-friendly as it produced a home win, over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring.
By contrast, the top match between Dortmund and Monaco was also the biggest losing match for tipsters. Monaco’s odds-defying away win on 12 April led to a total stake payout of -1,467.25.
Finally, bettingexpert revealed that Serbia accounted for 7.05% of the total Champions League tips in April, the highest figure for a country not represented by a team in the UEFA competition.
