Sports data,statistics and analytic provider Perform Group are eying a potential acquisition of sports information provider Opta according to English broadsheet newspaper the Daily Telegraph. The newspaper has shed light on a potential deal worth up to £40m, this figure is understood to represent the amount sought by Albion Capital, the venture capital firm which holds a stake in Opta.
If the proposed acquisition is to take place this will see Perform Group enhance its live data offerings. Perform owners of several online sports sites such as Goal.com confirmed this April that it was looking to expand its data services portfolio with the acquisition of RunningBall Golbal Sports Data. In the last 12 months the provider – which supplies more than 40 egaming operators with its Watch&Bet live streaming service – has furthr acquired Dutch sports news site Voetbalzone and German media company Sportal.
Opta data service products OptaJoe, is widely used by bookmakers, sports governing bodies and broadcasters for sports data and information. Clients in igaming and sports betting include Paddy Power,Ladbrokes, Betfair. Broadcast clients of Opta include Fox Sports, Espn Europe and the BBC.
Perform Group have yet to make public their interest in acquiring Opta.
