Arsenal let down punters after falling in The Hawthorns – AccaTracker Analysis

Arteta

Bookmakers were toasting West Bromwich Albion’s 2-1 victory over Arsenal at the Hawthorns this weekend as the match was the banker on most people’s accumulators this weekend. Data from the AccaTracker app, which has been developed by Team FA to allow users to monitor their multiple bets, showed that the match was selected by 7% of punters, meaning that they too suffered from Arteta’s own goal.

This was fortunate for bookmakers as the next raft of games all went as expected with Chelsea beating Norwich City (result: 1-0), Everton beating Aston Villa (result: 3-0) and Newcastle losing at home to Leicester City (result: 0-3)

The other big shock of the weekend was Saturday’s televised match between Manchester City vs Liverpool FC saw Jürgen Klopp’s side demolish the home favourites 1-4. However this match was way down the list of punters’ priorities, sitting ninth in the table.

In years gone by Manchester United visiting Vicarage Road would have been a nailed on banker, but punters were well aware of United’s injury problems, with the match less popular than six Championship games.

Team FA director of Marketing Tim Pindar commented: “Arsenal’s unexpected defeat did help out the bookmakers this weekend, although the punters didn’t clearly favour any one match this weekend. Manchester City have been the most dependable banker so far this season, but our AccaTracker users clearly didn’t fancy them too much against Liverpool and it seems that was a very wise move.

“The topsy turvy nature of the Premier League at the moment means that punters aren’t flocking to any one team as none of them can be trusted to win. Except perhaps Leicester.”
