David Baazov CEO of Amaya Inc has confirmed that subsidiary PokerStars will launch a sports betting product under the brand BetStars.com
The confirmation by Baazov follows last weekend’s speculation that Amaya Inc were preparing to launch a sports betting focused product, having acquired multiple domain names connected to the brand term BetStars.com.
Presenting Q3 2015 performance figures, Baazov detailed that Amaya had delayed its decision to rollout a sportsbook in 2015, with the operator choosing to improve its platform and overall sports betting inventory.
The much anticipated BetStars.com will aim to launch in the multiple European markets by H1 2016. Amaya governance stated that the operator would continue to diversify its product range as the company looks to reduce its dependence on online poker as its principal revenue generator.
Furthermore Poker news sources have reported this week, that Baazov and Amaya executives are keenly following developments in the burgeoning eSports market. Reports suggest that the operator sees significant cross-over appeal between eSports and its customer base.
Tuesday’s investor call saw Amaya governance lower its 2015 profit guidance by 10%, having missed Q3 earnings expectations. The firm detailed that it had been impacted by currency declines relative to a stronger US dollar.
