Google online video streaming subsidiary Youtube has announced the launch of dedicated gaming content app Youtube Gaming.

The app which was officially launched on Wednesday and is available via desktop, ios and Android systems, aims to be the market leader in worldwide gaming content.

The launch sees Youtube enter the growing gaming broadcast market, as it aims to compete with content leader Twitch.tv, which was acquired by Amazon for $940 million in August 2014.

Tech news sources have claimed that Youtube executives were drawn to launching the dedicated content app, as gaming videos have proved to be a huge draw on its user generated streaming services.

Youtube has disclosed little information regarding the broadcast format of Youtube Gaming and its potential live content.

Twitch.tv has grown rapidly in popularity by live streaming eSports events for competitive gaming leagues such as the Riot Games’ League of Legends Championship Series. The live broadcast is estimated to have attracted a live global audience of 27 million viewers.

Gaming is not the first topic to get a specialist offering from YouTube. The site is trialling a music service called Music Key, and has also launched a curated app for children in the US.
