Unibet – Aldo vs McGregor to break UFC betting records

Set for Saturday July 11 at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Arena, UFC 189 Aldo vs McGregor is this years most anticipated mixed martial arts (MMA) fight.

The main event will see stoic Brazilian featherweight champion Jose Aldo ‘Junior’ (28) take on raucous Dubliner ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor (26) in a fight that has caught the public and international media’s attention.

Just one month after the underwhelming boxing mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Las Vegas is again preparing itself for an influx of fight fans on the Strip, as both UFC fighters are beloved by their nation’s public

Following a media world tour, which saw McGregor continually taunt Aldo the stakes for UFC 189 could not be any bigger.

This week UFC President Dana White informed the media that the fight was “tracking over a million in Pay per View (PPV) buys”, White firmly believes that Aldo vs McGregor will break UFC PPV records.

European bookmaker Unibet, the official betting partner of the UFC has backed White’s fight comments. Giving insight into the betting market Unibet stated that the fight would likely break all UFC betting records, based on the early market action.

Thus far Unibet has seen 63% of bets placed on an Aldo win but the average wager is higher for McGregor, resulting on more money being placed on the Irish fighter.

The Unibet trading team  reckon it will be a  close fight, as reflected in the odds (Aldo 41/50, McGregor 10/11) but with experienced Aldo just edging it. Those that are favouring McGregor are looking at a TKO winning method (6/4) given his excellent striking ability but the Unibet boys are taking the view of Aldo by decision (5/2) given his knack of doing enough to win a fight (as seen in his last fight v Chad Mendes).

Unibet’s most popular round bet currently is McGregor Round 3 at 11/1, which has seen almost a quarter of round bets so far, with McGregor Round 4 at 16/1 a close second. So far though more than 90% of bets don’t think the fight will go the distance so fireworks are expected!

A Unibet statement commented on UFC 189

“Given the fight is still some way away it will almost certainly be the biggest UFC fight of the year in betting terms, based on the early money seen so far. Punters and fans are really looking forward to this one! As you know Swedish light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson is a Unibet ambassador so they generally see a lot of interest in his fights but this one should certainly surpass those.”
